FC Shakhtar’s United Together programme – protecting childhoods in Ukraine

The Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation’s partnership with FC Shakhtar’s United Together programme continues to help children through challenging times with football training and mental health support. Their sessions offer more than activity, bringing routine, connection and a safer space for the children to rebuild their confidence and play safely with others their age.

When air raid sirens drive them into underground shelters, the United Together project ensures that play does not stop. We’ve funded table football games in the bunkers to provide relief and a much-needed distraction from the reality outside. The games offer children the chance to just be children, finding fun, comfort and community through play.

Following the success of this initiative, FC Shakhtar are now working to furnish shelters across all their sites with football tables, prioritising the most vulnerable locations.

Sir Bobby believed that every child has the right to play safely. That belief threads through all our work in Ukraine, playing a role in helping to protect the precious moments of childhood that conflict tries to take away.
