Project METASHAPE Develops Test Demining Demonstrator

Funded by The Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation, Project METASHAPE aims to provide additional information about a detected metal object to users of metal detectors in humanitarian demining, such as its shape, orientation or type of metal. This would increase the efficiency of the demining process and reduce the risks to the deminers.

Researchers at the University of Zagreb are developing a solution consisting of a state of the art metal detector, a system for tracking its sensing head in real time, and a system for extracting and identifying object features.

After the second year of the project, the researchers have already developed a test demonstrator that was successfully presented to Vallon experts and will continue to collect more data and increase the performance of the solution.
